Management Ethics - Coursework Example This is because of the fact that he let the argument end thus according Willi an opportunity to survive. At the time when the boats had just sunk, Willi knew very well that he was headed to an enemy’s boat, his persistent plea and aggressiveness saved his life. He engaged the crew in the boated in an animated debate and he completely denied being an enemy, this portrays a clear evidence of an aggressive communication style. There is a strong evidence of compatibility of the styles used in this movie; the strong interconnectivity between fate of the characters and their communication prowess is highly defined. Willi used his communication aggressiveness to convince the crew at the time he boarding the boat, and also when he killed Gus when the rest of the crew in the boat was asleep. An interrelation is shown between aggressiveness and assertiveness, this is when Willi insisted that he was not an enemy while at the same time Garrett and Connie Porter took an advantage of the passiveness in Kovac’s communication style and made sure that Willi was not drowned. Several communication patterns are shown in different episodes in this movie, major patterns are either verbal or non verbal. The verbal patterns are accompanied with questioning as a pattern. That was used by Kovac when he interrogated more about Willi when he wanted to board the boat, however non verbal pattern is evident when Willi was ask ed about the whereabouts of Gus, his guilt in the drowning of Gus was evident when he started sweating unconsciously. Self concealing as a pattern was majorly used when Willi denied being an enemy knowing very well that he was not a Briton. The overall communication between the between the characters was highly effective as shown between Willi and the crew members at the time of boarding the boat, also it is evident when Connie Porter and Garret were

Mindfulness Worksheet Essay Example for Free

Mindfulness Worksheet Essay Please use the information from your â€Å"mindfulness conversation† to complete this worksheet. Submit this worksheet in the Module 1: Assignment 3 Dropbox no later than Day 7 of Module 1. Include vocabulary and concepts from your reading and course site to support and illustrate your own insights. In preparation for the papers you’ll write later in this course, take the time to organize your thoughts for each question and write clearly. Completed worksheet should be not more than three pages. 1. Describe who you had the conversation with and where. Only disclose what you are comfortable with. You can use initials or code names. I had this mindfulness conversation with a friend I’ve had for a long time. I had the conversation at my house on the front porch. 2. How easy/hard did you find it to be mindful? Why? I find it very easy to be mindful this time one reason being that me and him knew each other since we were 12 and we connect like brothers and have a lot in common that’s why I can be so mindful to him. 3. What did you notice during the moments when you were able to be mindful? How were you feeling? I noticed while being mindful that we have so much in common and we shared so many memorys for so many years. I felt very good listening to him because we are so close and it felt good to listen to what he had to say at those moments. 4. How did mindlessness both yours and the other person’s show up in the conversation? What affect did it have? Our mindfulness showed mine at first because I was only listening to him then him to me. It affected us by letting us know we can both be mindful and listen and learn from each other. 5. What 2-3 things did you learn about mindfulness? I learned that when you listen to someone they can teach you something everyone has a different perspective and view and deserve to be listened to. Next I learned that when you stop and be mindful to someone they will in return most likely be mindful to you. 6. What would help you be more mindful in your life? Identify 2 actions (i.e. new behaviors you can practice). How will these actions improve your interpersonal effectiveness? One thing that would help me be more mindful would be to learn about that person find out what we got in common and listen to them and then tell them what we have in common and share that with them. If I did this more often then I would definitely improve my interpersonal effectiveness because when you are more mindful then people will do the same to you and when people are mindful to each other then they will get along better and can teach each other more things about each other and about life in general.

Degradation of Women in Jack Kerouac’s On The Road Essay -- On The Roa

The Degradation of Women in On The Road An argument can be made that the women in Jack Kerouac's On The Road are not as characteristically well developed as the men. Through Sal and Dean's interactions with women, the reader sees that there exist two types of females in this novel - the benevolent virgin/mother figure or the whore. Women are constantly referred to in a negative way or blatantly degraded and insulted by numerous characters. However, Kerouac (through the character of Sal) exhibits sympathy for women. Sal does occasionally participate in female stereotyping, but this is simply because he wants to fit in. Although Sal may try to make arguments against the poor treatment of women, the novel in its entirety seems to reinforce male domination. "On the Road endorses the belief that women exist as either a virgin or a whore and Sal's character is not strong enough to offset this belief"(Bartlett 135). Although women are portrayed negatively in the novel, they do play a key role in many ways. Dean always needs to have a woman around to make his experiences more "real." As a result, women in general are often degraded. Marylou, for example, is constantly talked about but never talked to. She is not socially valuable enough to engage in conversation. When Dean tries to persuade Sal to sleep with Marylou, the dialogue is between Sal and Dean. Marylou doesn't have one line. All she really has is a little "go ahead". That is all and that really does not even imply cooperation; only coercion like "go ahead and You do Your thing to me". Dean is flippantly wanting... ...icate Dynamics of Friendship: A Reconsideration of Kerouac's On The Road." American Literature. v46: 200-206. 1974. Holmes, John C. Leadership meaner art of Influencing the subordinates so that they conduct pre-determined castles In the framework of certain purposes voluntarily and eagerly (Swahili Shrine, 1995: 15-19). It seems that human relations, his action would be led to satisfaction and improvement of employees' performance automatically. Today governmental and private organizations intend to enhance their service quality and this won't be fulfilled unless with a good management, suitable leadership and moving towards knowledge and technology advancement (Regain, 2005: 230-247). 54 O Centre for Promoting Ideas, USA www. Cabinet. Com As utilizing employees' abilities is not possible without effective leadership existence of leadership as the driving factor in employees' motivation, creating perspectives, enhancing employees' capability, education and development of the org anizational roses and compiling purposes and programs are very important to obtain organizational objectives (Moravia, 2009).Major task of Customs as one of the governmental organizations is to control imports and exports legally in order to get duties, preventing to import non-standard and unhygienic products, regulating importation and exportation of some products to regulate the internal market and etc.Violating the above cases would be led to social and cultural abnormalities in addition to their harmful impacts on the internal production and economic stagnation through changing the culture and taste of consumers towards nonstandard and smuggled products and creates disorientation in the economic system by dominance of foreign manufacturers on the internal markets and increases unemployment and the related problems.Since accurate and effective implementation of Customs' regulations and avoiding the above problems has a direct relationship with Customs' leadership and performance of its employees as economic frontiers of the country it is intended in the present survey to answer the following questions given to the above issues. Which dimension of leadership development has the highest impact on employees' performance?Research literature Leadership Leadership is the ability to encourage others to try eagerly in order to obtain certain purposes (Davis, 2010: 423). It is a process in which management of the organization tries to facilitate his tasks to fulfill organizational purposes by creating motivation and an effective relation and encourages employees to conduct their tasks eagerly and enthusiastically (Alvin, 1996: 137-138). Leadership development: past, present and future Leadership development is enhancement of abilities and creating perspectiv e for motivating and directing of individuals towards determined purposes. It includes components such as education and development, participation of individuals in decision-making, coaching, Job empowerment and authorization (Lowlier, Gold Smith & Karate, 2005). Leadership development has obtained achievements in two previous decades among which we can refer increasing of management development methods and coordination among the management and ore popular increasingly and causes more studies to be focused on leadership competencies and problems regarding non-coordination in working affairs and life (Werner-Brome & Hughes, 2009).Leadership development at work environment Nowadays innovators represent skills and techniques regarding leadership development through methods such as educational programs and coaching and apply them in real issues. People could obtain important skills by combining such directions and real commercial conditions and thus it is possible for organizations to fi nd important, synchronous and related issues and deal with them. Finally purpose of leadership development includes action not knowledge. Therefore, leadership development at present meaner providing learning opportunities for people through work not keeping them aloof from the work environment and obliging them to learning. Moreover, the best experience of organizations is to find out the leadership role as a key factor in all Job levels and that they are committed to create effective leaders across their organizations. Developing more individual and better leaders is not the only focusing point of leadership development although this issue is still very important.Leadership is increasingly defined in a way that it is not Just related to leader's acts rather it is a process which creates a new generation of leaders and effective relations that their focus is on leaders and colleagues' interaction (La]Verdi, 2011). Organizational performance Organizational performance is obtaining or ganizational and social purposes or going beyond them and conducting responsibilities undertaken by people (Heresy and Blanchard, 1996: 504). 55 Research hypotheses Primary hypothesis There is a relationship between leadership development and employees' performance. Leadership development C oaching Performance Education and development Participation in decision-making Authorization Research methodology The present survey was conducted using descriptive- correlation method. Statistical population included employees of Customs headquarters in 2011.Volume of the statistical population was equal to 678 persons among which 386 persons were male and 292 persons were female. Sample volume was determined equal to 250 persons using Creakier and Morgan table and relative class sampling method was used. Therefore, portion of each class (male and female employees) was first calculated in the statistical population and the same ratio was observed in the sample too. Statistical sample of employees contains 142 males and 108 females by gender separation. Two researcher self-made questionnaires were used for leadership development and performance to collect the required data. Although these questionnaires were standard and normalized, views of advisor and guiding professors were review ed to determine validity of the questionnaires. Cockroach alpha coefficients of leadership development and employees' performance questionnaires ware equal to 0. 89 and 0. 86 respectively which illustrated high reliability of both questionnaires. Results were analyzed through SPAS software.Analyzing results As variables under study follow normal distribution Pierson correlation coefficient is used in this survey to study the relationship among variables. The Importance of Huzun to Orhan Pamuk in Istanbul...

Byzantium, a city built by Greek colonists to Constantinople, the capital of an empire and then Istanbul, Istanbul has seen almost everything. The zenith of civilization to the ruinous city ravaged by war and political chaos; Each time an empire fell; a new one was born from its ruins giving the people another chance at life, and this cycle continued and still continues. This constant struggle brings with it sorrow; sorrow of the loss of loved ones, sorrow of the loss of culture and sorrow of the fall of another empire and hope, hope of a new life, a restart. This feeling is unlike any other, and every citizen of Istanbul, new or old is afflicted by it, no matter which district they belong to, and through Istanbul: Memories and the City,†¦show more content†¦This aspect of Huzun stems from the fact that Istanbul is a city of two worlds, the junction of the east and the west. The two sides of the river are like two sides of a coin, each different than the other, yet part of the same existence. The simultaneous existence of these two great influences has resulted in a unique identity for Istanbul, which incorporates the west with the east, but history has shown time and again, two great powers cannot coexist in complete harmony, and the polar nature of these two cultures caused friction, friction that while gave Istanbul a new identity, also gave Istanbul problems unlike any other which was integral for Huzun as it brought them closer, because only an ‘Istanbullu’ could understand the problems of another ‘Istanbullu’. The people could neither relate to the people of the east, nor the people of west, the city of Istanbul was its own isolated community. A major origin of Huzun for Orhan Pamuk in Istanbul Memories and the City was the cultural clash that had engulfed the entire city. Slowly, as

Political Corruption - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1534 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2017/06/26 Category Law Essay Type Essay any type Level High school Tags: Act Essay Corruption Essay Political Essay Did you like this example? In the present day and age, corruption has ceased to shock people. Even when Ministers and Bureaucrats are detected engaging in malpractices, they go scot- free due to the reach of their offices and influence they exercise. If anything is done at all, they are given transfers which offer no solution to the problem at all. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Political Corruption" essay for you Create order As long as corruption fails to be legally, morally and socially censured, there exists no hope eradicating it from our nation or even reducing its grip on it. Realistically speaking, it may be impossible to extirpate corruption from the system however, it ought to be curbed and kept in check, at least moderately. To truly answer the question whether it is possible to contain corruption in our Indian society, it is necessary to understand that although many of the leaders come into power upon making determined promises to eradicate corruption from India, they themselves end up succumbing to the system and become thoroughly corrupt in order to amass immense wealth. For instance, when the Communist government came to power in West Bengal in 1977, it promised to rid the State of corruption in a matter of few years. But most of the leaders were accused of corruption, so much so that, one politburo member, who at one time served as the Chief Minister of Tripura, was expelled from the pa rty in the middle of April in 1995 just because he had accused a highly placed politician in the party of nepotism and being personally corrupt. When Rajiv Gandhi was elected to the Prime Ministerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Office in 1984, he too declared war on corruption but soon he himself was victimized due to the Bofors payoff scandal. Thus, corruption has become institutionalized in the present day. The following existing myths regarding corruption must be expelled to effectively combat corruption: Corruption has become a way of life and nothing can be done to eradicate it[1]; Post- independence, an abundance of freedom and license bestowed on the people of the democracy caused corruption to gain momentum[2];or that Poor people of underdeveloped countries are easy targets of temptation due to their dishonesty while citizens of developed countries are more morally upright[3]; or that Corruption is rampant only at the subordinate levels of offices[4]; or that Illiterate people are more corrupt than the educated people[5]; or that Politicians are mainly responsible for the spread of corruption[6]. All these fallacies have to be guarded against while planning measures to contain corruption. To reduce corruption at all levels, the following might be considered as necessary measures and methods: 1. Law, procedure and administration have to be adequately focused upon. The organizations and behavior of certain rank holders in specific situations are to be governed by specific laws and rules. Outdated and dysfunctional laws have to be repealed or amended. Laws or rules or regulations which are too harsh or complex lead to corruption. Also, laws should not be too relaxed either as they leave too much Continued to Page 2 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Continued from Page 1 scope for discretion. The level of discretionary powers bestowed on an officer must be commensurate with his status and the role in the office. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"Administrativeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ factors leading to corruption include both structural and functional aspects. The structure of an organizat ion determines its lacunae for corruption while à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"functioningà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ refers to the process in which the organization works meaning both the quantity and quality of work, supervision, magnitude of lapses permitted, and so on. 2. Artificial shortages and scarcities facilitating illegal gratification have to be curbed. 3. Vigilance must be increased as vigilance does not hamper efficiency but improves it. Officials of doubtful integrity should be kept away from sensitive posts. And, surprise checks must be carried out at vulnerable points of corruption. 4. Liberalization policy must be very cautiously introduced. Although liberalization and free market may eventually reduce corruption but at present à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"liberal sanctionsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ are generally being granted in return for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"considerationsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. Capitalist nations like the United States of America, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Mal aysia are exceedingly corrupt societies. Corruption scandals are forever being exposed in Japan which point to the institutionalization of hypocrisy and dishonesty. 5. Election expenses have to be strictly monitored and controlled, and 6. The general mass has to cooperate in full measure in order to successfully combat corruption. Cases of police because they are afraid (that the corrupt and influential might harm them), indifferent (that they are not duty bound to report cases of corruption) and pessimists (that no action will be taken against the corrupt people). Yet, there are instances where people have tried to bring about a change by bringing the cases of corruption to the notice of concerned authorities. These people have an innate sense of opposition towards any wrongdoing and derive satisfaction from doing any kind of service to the community. Corruption can be vanquished only by the collective efforts of the people. By making sure that the dis honest politicians are not elected to the legislatures, half the battle is won. In a modern democracy like India, people need to realize their true role in combating corruption. In fact, the complete lack of public initiative against it and peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tolerance of the same encourage corruption to continue to exist. Failure of the intellectual, educated, well- informed and articulate citizens to properly channelize their resentment of corruption into strong public opinion against it (it is only recently that they are voicing their opinions through the Civil Societyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Movement Against Corruption- CMAC), has caused corruption to become accepted as a deep- rooted customary evil. The CMAC, in fact, is making a serious dent in the corruption level. However, this needs to be supported by increasing number of people as then only, will it successfully bring about permanent changes in the country. Even Indian university youths can take up such society- orien ted initiatives and organize movements for controlling the evil.[7] Another effective measure for containing corruption could be the introduction of a method which will enable political parties to secure electoral funds in a bona fide manner, or the central government can Continued to Page 3 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦..Continued from Page 2 finance elections through the creation of an election fund. This system is in function in Germany, Sweden and Norway and some other advanced European countries. The political parties may obtain funds from the state according to the votes polled by them in the previous general elections. The money may be fixed per vote, for instance, two or three rupees per vote and so on. The concept of State funding of elections has been discussed in the Indian Parliament, in recent years, more than once. However, not only the previous governments but also the present United Progressive Alliance government has found it extremely problematic to implement the sam e. State funding of elections will not only eliminate donations from corrupt businessmen and interest groups but will also ensure free and fair elections by drawing men of integrity in assemblies, equalizing the amount of money spent by various political parties, and so on. Along with this measure, appointing Lok Pals to investigate the charges of corruption at the highest echelons of power and could effectively control corruption. Although, Lok Ayuktas in eleven states have been tendered impotent due to numerous disabilities, learning from their experiences, the powers of the Lok Pal should be widened and his recommendations ought to have a statutory force. These have to be brought up in the Parliament and given due publicity in the media. The Lok Pal could comprise a single retired judge of the Supreme Court or a division bench or three judges. The judge(s) should not be selected by the executive but by a four member committee consisting of the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India, Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Leader of the Opposition. The Lok Pal must be equipped with independent investigative machinery at his disposal. The Jan Lokpal Bill, also known as the citizens ombudsman bill, aims to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances of citizens, and protect whistle-blowers. If made into law, the bill would create an independent ombudsman body called the Lokpal (Sanskrit: protector of the people). It would be empowered to register and investigate complaints of corruption against politicians and bureaucrats without prior government approval. Corruption is a cancer which every Indian needs to strive to obliterate. The four most important prescriptions for corruption are: 1. Honest and dedicated persons being elected to power and assuming public offices, 2. Reduced government control in the economy, also known as, liberalization policy, 3. Control over electoral expenditures, 4. Passing and proper implementation of the Jan Lokpa l Bill. The citizens of India have had to tolerate the curse of corruption for a long time. It is now time to join hands with and engage the youth of India and harness their power of influence and vigour to rid our beautiful nation of this ugly plague of corruption.
